Finding Harmony:Crafting Your Perfect Plate of Life
#02 "Mastering life's decisions by choosing wisely and living intentionally"
Hi Beloveth,
In my last entry I talked with you about “better portions” and the importance of choice and what a better portions involves. So as a new month roll around I want to continue the conversation about making positive choices that align with your goals and values.
As we embark on this new month, it's the perfect opportunity to reflect on what we truly want to achieve and how we can make strides towards those aspirations. It's about defining what success means to us individually and taking intentional steps to move closer to that vision.
In the journey of life, every decision we make, no matter how small, contributes to the larger picture of who we are becoming. By being mindful of the choices we make each day, we empower ourselves to create a life that is in harmony with our deepest desires and aspirations.
For me this year, May is a month of reflection, transition, and intentional decision.
What Will I Stop
Choosing to stop something as a new month rolls in is like closing a well-thumbed book you’ve grown to love—it’s bittersweet. But sometimes, we need a hard stop. And while this decision had been circulating in my mind in April. I want to make a concrete decision for this month.
This May, I've decided to stop the habit of scrolling through social media late at night. I've noticed that this habit not only disrupts my sleep pattern but also impacts my mental health. Instead of ending my day with screens, I plan to replace this habit with with something else. Keep reading to find out what it is.
What Will I Continue
I'm continuing my practice of resting and maintaining a healthy routine from the month of April.
Here’s what was hard:
One of the primary challenges I encountered was consistency. Sticking to my new routine of journaling, reading my bible, and prioritizing rest required not just mental commitment but follow through.
What I did:
It's completely understandable to face challenges when trying to establish a new routine, but consistency is key. So, I had to start small and gradually build my way up, and stay committed even when I didn’t want to.
I tracked my habits daily, primarily journaling and bible reading. Some weeks, I read my bible more; others, I didn't, but decided not to let that discourage me. Instead, I used it to motivate myself. For me, checking off my goal at the end of the day was a reward. I know that won't always be the case, but for this season, that reward is working for me.
Lesson Learned:
I learned the power of small, consistent steps. Big changes don't happen overnight, and the accumulation of small daily practices can lead to substantial long-term benefits.
This can apply not just to resting and maintaining a healthy routine but to any aspect of life we wish to improve.
Through the difficulties, the process teaches resilience, self-compassion, and a more profound appreciation for the simple act of being kind to oneself.
What I Will Start
On the topic starting something new, as mentioned before I want to replace my habit of scrolling at night to reading.
Whether it's the bible, a self-help book, or even a blog post, the goal is to engage my mind in a more calming and productive manner before bed.
Making this adjustment to my routine will not only help me relax and unwind but also paves the way for peaceful sleep at night and a rejuvenated start to my mornings. A few years ago, this was a practice of mine, but that rhythm was altered and now I think it’s a good time to start again.
In the past, I found that reading before bedtime offers a wonderful opportunity to engage with others' stories or perspectives, gain knowledge, or discover inspiration.
Such moments I truly enjoy. So, I need to make time for things like this because for me, it’s my '“better portion.”
May is a month of change for me. It's about letting go of habits that hinder my growth, embracing new opportunities for wellness, and continuing practices that nourish my soul. It's a reminder that change is not only possible but necessary for growth. Here's to a May filled with positive transformations!
So friend, take a moment to share with me what you are starting this month.
Until next time.
