Finding Harmony:How Every Twist and Turn Shapes Us
#06 How Every Twist and Turn Shapes Us Explore how life's unexpected moments and challenges contribute to personal growth and fulfillment, leading to a deeper understanding
Hi Beloveth,
As I ponder another entry in my journey to finding rhythm as we embark a new month, I reflect on my experiences as a young woman navigating the complexities of adulthood.
The truth is I have just been feeling that life has been throwing one obstacle after another in my path. Every setback has felt personal.
One particularly rough evening, as I sat down to journal, I found myself flipping through the pages of my old entries from a few years ago. Among the scribbles and reflections, a quote caught my eye: "What if these challenges are not happening to you, but for you?" This simple yet profound statement struck a chord within me, reminding me of an essential truth I had come to understand—that life is for me, not against me. In the face of adversity, this perspective is a beacon of hope and empowerment.
Life's journey is filled with hurdles that can make it seem daunting at times. Yet, it is in these very challenges that we find our strength and resilience. We possess an incredible power within us, and it’s crucial to embrace the tools at our disposal to navigate through life’s ups and downs.
The purpose of this journey is to grant us lived experiences and opportunities for growth. If everything was always smooth sailing, there would be no pressure to create the pearls of wisdom and strength that define our character.
A little while ago, I had the opportunity to visit my coach and mentor. During the trip, I attended a local church service where the message resonated deeply with me. The speaker drew a parallel between our life's journey of faith and the twelve gates in heaven made of pearls, as referenced in scripture, Revelation 21:21.
The idea that we endure a tough life here on earth, only to be welcomed by pearly gates in heaven, serves as a powerful affirmation. It reassures us that the pain and challenges we face are not in vain. The reward of eternal life affirms that our struggles have purpose and meaning and the pearly gates is a representation of that.
Understanding this message led me to reflect on the process of how pearls are made and its symbolic application to our lives. A pearl begins as a tiny irritant within an oyster. To protect itself, the oyster secretes layers of nacre around the irritant, gradually transforming it into a beautiful pearl. This process of enduring irritation and adversity ultimately results in something precious and valuable.
Similarly, in our lives, challenges and difficulties are the irritants that push us to grow and evolve. It is through facing and overcoming these obstacles that we build resilience, strength, and wisdom. Each experience, no matter how painful or daunting, contributes to the creation of our own unique pearls—production of our personal growth and transformation.
In moments of struggle, it is vital to remember that we hold immense power within us. By embracing the lessons and opportunities that life presents, we can transform our challenges into something beautiful. Life is not happening to us, but for us, guiding us towards growth and deeper revelations of ourselves.

As we step into another month of finding our rhythm let us hold onto the belief that our struggles are shaping us into better versions of ourselves. Just as the oyster turns an irritant into a pearl, we too have the capacity to turn our challenges into triumphs.
Embrace the process, trust in your strength, and know that the pearls of wisdom you create will shine brightly, in this life. Even more so remember that you are not alone in your journey. Your Maker and King is with you always even unto the end of age Matthew 28:20.
Beloveth, in embracing the mindset that life is happening for me, I’m encouraged to keep moving forward. I’m learning to trust the process, to find meaning in the challenges, and to believe that each twist and turn is leading me toward something greater.
So, I would love to know, what are you embracing in this next month what pearl will you produce? Share with me so I can I celebrate the journey with you.

Thank you for sharing that post, Sanalee, and thanks for what you share in this article.
Life is its own reward, with the reasons for living contained in it. Normally, it's hard to make sense of things (especially the "bad" stuff) as they happen. That's why reflection is important.
With it, we get to see the point in things, understanding how life is for, not against us.
